Pregame Buzz: Michael Young feels better
"It does this every few seasons and gets better," Young said. "My range of motion is completely back."
Young said he had the same stiffness three seasons ago and needed a few days. He felt this was the same thing and said he didn't really do anything special to try to loosen it up.
"I stayed off it and went off previous history with this thing," Young said. "I'm ready to go."
Young has a career average of .317 at Comerica Park with four homers and 18 RBIs in 183 at-bats here.
* Manager Ron Washington said he wanted as many right-handed hitters in the lineup against lefty Adam Wilk, so that's the reason Yorvit Torrealba is in and catching Yu Darvish. Mike Napoli is at first base. In fact, the only lefty in the Rangers lineup is Josh Hamilton with Craig Gentry playing in center field and David Murphy on the bench.
* Washington said he wanted Gentry in the game as a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game not only because of his right-handed bat, but because it gave the skipper the option of going with the squeeze play with the bases loaded and one out. But Gentry quickly fell behind and Washington didn't get a chance to put the play on.
"He battled and found a way to get on," Washington said. Gentry was hit by a pitch to score a run to make it 4-2 at that point.
* Brandon Snyder played first base Wednesday and Washington said at this point that's where he'll play primarily. Snyder continues to work with outfield coach Gary Pettis and Washington said it won't be long before Snyder can also play left field.
"He can play the corner [infield] spots, but Beltre doesn't take many days off, so that means mainly first base," Washington said.
