ETROIT – Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre says he doesn’t believe the left hamstring strain that forced his early exit from Saturday’s game is as bad as the one that landed him on the disabled list last season.

Beltre said he strained the hamstring as he sped up toward second base after hitting a double in the second inning of the Rangers’ 10-4 win over the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. He clutched the hamstring as he got to the bag and came out of the game after manager Ron Washington and a trainer went out to check on him. Beltre is listed as day-to-day, but is not in the lineup for the second game of the doubleheader and is not expected to play Sunday.

Michael Young is in the lineup at third base for Saturday night’s game and Washington said Young would be the primary third baseman in Beltre’s absence.

“I don’t think it’s quite as bad as last year,” Beltre said. “It didn’t grab me that much. I don’t think it’s that bad. Hopefully, that’s the case.”
