DETROIT -- Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre is not in the lineup for Sunday's game in Detroit after straining his left hamstring in Game 1 of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday. He said he will get an MRI on Monday to get a better idea of the extent of the injury.

Beltre still does not believe he'll be out of the lineup for an extended period of time. Alberto Gonzalez is in the lineup at third base for the Rangers in the series finale with the Tigers on Sunday.

"I don't think it's a big deal," Beltre said Sunday. "I think it will be a couple of days."

Beltre said when he strained the same hamstring last July, he knew immediately it was going to be an injury that sidelined him for a while. He said it did not feel like that when he felt it grab as he went to second on a double in Saturday afternoon's game.

Manager Ron Washington said he wanted to get Michael Young off his feet today and that's the reason Gonzalez is in the lineup. Normally, Young would play third in Beltre's absence.

Other notes:

* Young passed Rusty Greer for the highest batting average in franchise history for players with at least 3,000 plate appearances thanks to his 4-for-8 performance on Saturday. He is batting .30456 (2,085-for-6,846), just ahead of Greer's .30452 (1,166-for-3,829).

"Sweet," Young said, smiling. "If I was retiring today, that would be a big deal."

Young has a nine-game hitting streak during which he is batting .526 (20-for-38) with two homers and 10 RBIs. He's hitting .414 on the season, second in the AL.

* Mike Napoli's home run streak came to an end on Saturday night after he struck out in a pinch-hit at-bat. Washington thought Napoli got a pitch he could have driven but just missed it early in the at-bat.

"I'm just trying to get hits," Napoli said. "If it leaves the park, great."

* Washington wants to wait to see how things go today before determining exactly who starts on Wednesday, but Scott Feldman is the likely possibility.

* Washington noticed that the field was a little more moist for Saturday's second game, possibly an attempt to slow down the Rangers' running attack. Washington has no problems with a team doing that in an effort to take advantage of a home park (just like some teams prefer longer grass in the infield, etc.). He said it shows "that awareness is in people's heads" in terms of the Rangers' speed, meaning teams know that Texas isn't afraid to put pressure on them with the running game.
