Roy Oswalt throws two scoreless innings
FIRST INNING: Oswalt got out of a bases-loaded, no-outs jam after giving up a walk sandwiched by two soft singles. He struck out cleanup hitter Jeff Baisley on three pitches, blowing a 94-mph fastball by him after starting him off with two off-speed, high-60s pitches. Oswalt induced an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play on his next pitch, a 92-mph fastball. His first eight fastballs were clocked in the mid-80s. His final four fastballs of the inning were 91, 92, 94 and 92. He allowed no runs on two hits and one walk. Threw 17 pitches, 10 for strikes.
SECOND INNING: Oswalt jammed leadoff hitter Tim Federowicz with an 81-mph breaking ball on the fists, but it dropped in shallow right field for a bloop single. Oswalt retired the next three batters on a sharply hit lineout to third base, a 5-4 fielder’s choice and a groundout to shortstop. He allowed no runs on one hit and no walks. Threw 17 pitches, 10 for strikes.
