Rangers' bats collectively silent in Oakland
The Texas Rangers finished off their series against the A’s with another offensive dud, getting just four hits in a 7-1 loss to the A’s. The Rangers have been held to two runs or less in five of the last seven games, losing each of those.
“You’ve got to tip you hat (to A’s pitchers),” Rangers manager Ron Washington said. “Two days in a row (Bartolo Colon and Brandon McCarthy) threw ball very well. When you pitch well it makes the hitting look like it’s not doing very well. It’s obvious we’re not swinging the bats very well, but these are the guys that got us here and they’ll take us farther. We’ve got to have patience.”
The Rangers still lead the American League in scoring.
Slugger Josh Hamilton, who is 4-for-29 during the seven-game slide, said he’s surprised to see what’s happened, regardless of the pitching.
“Over the last three years, this is out of the ordinary,” Hamilton said. “What’s made us so good is if two, three guys aren’t getting it done, someone else is getting it done. If the bottom isn’t doing it the top is. If the top isn’t, the bottom is. Right now really nobody is. It’s not like this was never going to happen, but we don’t panic. We don’t stress. We just go out and play.”
