ESPN Stats & Information (shout out to Keith Hawkins, Jon Kramer, John Fisher, Josh, Parcell, Danny Pedroza, Gil Bransford, Jason Starrett, Dan Braunstein and Brandon Mendoza) took a look at Colby Lewis' start Tuesday and analyzed why he was so successful. Here's a look:

* Lewis held Diamondbacks lefties to 1-for-13 against him. Almost 78 percent of his pitches to lefties were in the outer third of the zone or further outside, his highest percentage of the season.

* Diamondbacks hitters were 1-for-15 with five strikeouts in at-bats ending with Lewis' offspeed pitches, including 1-for-11 in at-bats ending with his slider.

* Lewis is the sixth pitcher this year to be perfect through five innings and the fifth to lose the perfect game bid in the sixth inning. Only Philip Humber, who completed his perfect game, has even had a perfect game bid through six innings this year.

Longest Perfect Game Bids in 2012

April 21: Philip Humber, 9 innings
April 28: Anthony Bass, 5 2/3 innings
April 13: Matt Cain, 5 2/3 innings
April 7: Ubaldo Jimenez, 5 2/3 innings
Tuesday: Colby Lewis, 5 1/3 innings
June 5: Ryan Dempster, 5 innings
