Mitch Moreland (hamstring) out 4-6 weeks

June, 22, 2012
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland landed on the disabled list Friday, as expected, with a strained left hamstring. The MRI showed he could be out four to six weeks with a Grade II strain.

Roy Oswalt replaces Moreland on the 25-man roster, and the club still must make a 40-man roster move prior to Friday’s game.

Moreland sustained the injury trying to beat out a double play ball in Tuesday’s 7-3 win in San Diego. With Moreland out, the Rangers will handle first base by committee with Mike Napoli, Michael Young and Brandon Snyder all capable of playing the position.

“It happens," Moreland said. "It’s obviously not what I wanted to happen, but I’ve got to treat it, get better and get back on the field.”

Moreland joins some banged-up teammates on the DL, including Derek Holland, Alexi Ogando, Neftali Feliz and Koji Uehara.

Moreland, 26, is hitting .272 with 10 homers and 25 RBIs. He batted just .231 in April, but hit the ball much better in May to bring his average up.
