KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Texas Rangers starter Matt Harrison has two main goals at this 2012 All-Star Game: have fun and learn.

Even though it’s just a two-day period that the players are here, Harrison hopes to observe and soak in as much as he can from other pitchers on the American League squad.

“It’s a little sample of what each guy does,” Harrison said. “I’m going to keep my eyes open and see what they do and how they prepare themselves and see if I can pick up something I can use down the road.”

Harrison said he never considered himself a candidate to start the All-Star Game.

“I knew I had a good first half, but there were others more deserving than I was,” Harrison said.

He said he’s looking forward to seeing what Justin Verlander can do in that spot.

“I think it’s the right decision (to start Verlander),” Harrison said. “You see what he’s doing the last few years. I don’t think anybody has come close to that. He maybe doesn’t have as many wins as he did last year, but his ERA, strikeouts and innings are amazing.”
