ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers play host to the Boston Red Sox in the second game of this three-game series, which features LHP Martin Perez vs. RHP Clay Buchholz. Perez will make his fifth career appearance (third start) in place of Colby Lewis, who is out for the season with a torn flexor tendon in his right elbow. Perez (1-1, 5.54): The 21-year-old has seen his only major league action during Lewis' two DL stints this season. ... Buchholz (8-3, 5.19): The 27-year-old from Nederland, Texas has the second-most wins, hits allowed (108), earned runs (58) and home runs allowed (T-15) on the Red Sox pitching staff this season. ... He was 4-0 in June, including a complete game shutout against the Baltimore Orioles on June 7. ... He has not pitched as well on the road as he has at home, posting a 3-2 record and 5.71 ERA in 41 innings pitched compared to a 5-1 record and 4.83 ERA in 59 2/3 innings pitched at Fenway Park. ... He is 1-3 i his career against the Rangers with a 3.91 ERA in 23 innings pitched. ... He is riding a three-game losing streak against Texas, with his only win coming on April 21, 2008, when he threw six shutout innings.
