ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers catcher Mike Napoli was placed on the disabled list with a strained left quad muscle prior to Saturday’s game with the Detroit Tigers. Triple-A catcher Luis Martinez was called up in his place.

Napoli, who felt the quad tighten during the last homestand, didn’t play the final two games in Boston earlier this week to give it some time to rest. He was back in the lineup Friday, but after landing on the DL will not be eligible to return until Aug. 26.
