Harrison (13-7, 3.24 ERA): He's 1-3 with a 4.70 ERA in his last five starts (after throwing a complete-game shutout of the Mariners on July 15). That's increased his ERA from 2.87 to 3.24, but it's still the ninth-lowest in the AL. ... Harrison pitched well enough to win in New York last week, but got a no-decision after allowing one run on five hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings pitched. The Rangers lost the game as Hiroki Kuroda threw a two-hit shutout. ... Elias Sports Bureau notes that Harrison is just the second Rangers starter in history to get a loss when leaving the game with a 0-0 score in the seventh inning or later (the other was Opening Day in 1972, the first game ever in Arlington, when Dick Bosman got the loss). ... He is 0-2 with a 12.00 ERA in five games (four starts) vs. Toronto. The Blue Jays have batted .418 against him. ... In two starts at Rogers Centre, Harrison is 0-1 with a 15.95 ERA (13 earned runs in 7 1/3 innings), including a loss on May 2 this year (eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings).

Alvarez (7-10, 4.48 ERA): This will be Alvarez's 24th start of the season and second against the Rangers. ... Alvarez gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings, including three home runs in a Rangers win on May 26 in Arlington. ... He's had an up and down season, but is coming off one of his betters starts of the season. ... Alvarez gave up three runs on seven hits in seven innings with no walks and two strikeouts in a victory over the White Sox on Aug. 14. ... Alvarez has a better ERA (4.23) at home than on the road (4.77).

Hitters: Alvarez hasn't faced any Rangers in more than three at-bats, but the few that have hit against him have hit well. ... Mitch Moreland is 3-for-3 with a homer. ... Eight Rangers have gone up against Alvarez and all of them have at least one hit except Elvis Andrus (0-for-3) and Michael Young (0-for-3). ... Yunel Escobar is 5-for-8 with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs. ... Jeff Mathis is 4-for-5 with an RBI. ... Harrison has held Rajai Davis (3-for-12) and Edwin Encarnacion (0-for-5) to limited hits.
