ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington knows that some pitchers would have experienced the kind of discomfort Yu Darvish did in his bullpen session and just not said anything, hoping they could pitch through it or that it would go away.

Ron Washington gives an update on Rangers starter Yu Darvish on his weekly Wednesday visit.

The skipper prefers his players to speak up if they don't feel right.

"He could have not been honest with us," Washington said. "He didn't have to. But we covered a lot of subjects yesterday, personal and everything else, and he's honest. That's what I want."

Darvish and Washington stressed that they don't consider this an injury and that it's just a precaution. But the decision also gives Darvish a built-in break, which likely won't hurt the pitcher who has pitched in six-man rotations in his career in Japan. Darvish has thrown 147 2/3 innings so far in 23 starts. He pitched a league-high 232 innings in 2011 in Japan in 28 starts, including 10 complete games. So he's used to high innings counts, but doing it with more time in between starts.

"He's not injured," Washington said. "He'll be ready for his next start. We just wanted to be sure."

Other notes:

* Mike Olt will likely be in the lineup tomorrow against left-handed starter Scott Diamond of the Minnesota Twins. It's just a question of where he'll play.

* The Rangers are using the same lineup this entire series, going once again with Geovany Soto at catcher and David Murphy and Mitch Moreland in the bottom third of the order.

* Washington talked about holding runners on and how the Rangers work with pitchers to do a better job of that, but at the same time, with a young staff you want them concentrating on the hitter.
