ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Tampa Bay Rays, leaders in the AL wild-card race, come to town to take on the Texas Rangers, who own the best record in the AL. The first game of the three-game series is at 7:05 p.m. on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM, ESPN and FSSW. A look at the pitching matchup between lefties Derek Holland and David Price:

Price (16-4. 2.28 ERA): The lefty is right in the mix for the Cy Young. He's tied for the league lead in wins (16), is tops in ERA (2.28), sixth in strikeouts (167) and fifth in WHIP (1.07). ... Price hasn't allowed a run in his last 17 innings and only two runs in his last four starts. ... Price has a streak of 12 straight quality starts and has pitched at least seven innings in all of them. ... Price has made one start against the Rangers this season and it was back in April in Arlington. He allowed two runs on six hits in 6 1/3 innings with six strikeouts and one walk in the win. ... He is 1-3 with a 5.22 ERA in seven career regular-season starts against the Rangers.

Holland (8-6, 4.92 ERA): The last time Price pitched against the Rangers, he did so with Holland on the mound, so this is the rematch of that outing. Holland allowed three second-inning runs and ended up giving up five runs on nine hits in seven innings with eight strikeouts and two walks. ... He got a win in his last start, allowing three runs on five hits in seven innings with five strikeouts and two walks to Baltimore on Wednesday, when Adrian Beltre hit three homers. ... Holland is 3-2 with a 6.49 ERA in six career regular-season starts against the Rays ... Is 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA in four games (one start) against the Rays in the postseason.

Hitters: Nelson Cruz is 5-for-10 with a homer and three RBIs against Price. ... Elvis Andrus is 4-for-14 with four RBIs and five walks. ... Josh Hamilton (3-for-14), Ian Kinsler (3-for-15) and Michael Young (3-for-15) have struggled to get things going against Price. ... Evan Longoria is 6-for-16 with a homer and four RBIs vs. Holland. ... B.J. Upton (7-for-15) and Ben Zobrist (5-for-15) each have a homer against Holland. ... Sean Rodriguez and Desmond Jennings are a combined 2-for-15 off Holland.
