ARLINGTON, Texas – Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was named American League player of the week.

Beltre had a three-homer game and a cycle during the week. It’s his third career player of the week honor and his first in the AL (his last one was in June 2004 when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers).

Beltre, 33, hit .433 (13-for-30) with three doubles, one triple, five home runs, nine RBIs and seven runs scored in seven games. He had the highest slugging percentage (1.100) for the week in the majors and most total bases (33) and was tied for first in hits and home runs and tied for second in RBIs.

Beltre hit three home runs in his first three at-bats, including two homers in the fourth inning, in a 12-3 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. He joined Albert Pujols, George Brett, Reggie Jackson and Babe Ruth as the only players to have a three-homer game in the regular season and the postseason.

On Thursday, Beltre was 3-for-5 with another home run. On Friday he finished 4-for-4 while hitting for the cycle – a triple in the first, double in the second, homer in the fifth and single in the seventh. He’s just the second player in big league history to have a three-homer game and a cycle in the same week, joining Joe DiMaggio in 1948 (according to Elias Sports).
