ESPN.com's Jim Bowden ranked the seventh- and eighth-inning pitchers for the contending teams and puts the Texas Rangers at No. 1 with Alexi Ogando, Robbie Ross and Mike Adams. Here's part of what he said:
The Rangers have the best seventh- and eighth-inning relievers in the AL based on Ogando’s and Adams’ postseason experience and ability to pitch multiple innings. Adams’ decision to mix in curveballs to his mostly hard repertoire of fastballs, cutters and sliders could be a big difference-maker.
It's difficult to imagine that if Bowden added in Joe Nathan to make this a ranking based on the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, that the Rangers wouldn't still be No. 1. That bullpen could prove to be the difference this postseason. We'll see.
