ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Texas Rangers relief pitcher Tanner Scheppers left Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels with an apparent knee injury, limping off the field without recording an out after replacing starter Ryan Dempster in the fourth inning.

Scheppers hit Erick Aybar with his first pitch to load the bases, then threw his next pitch to the backstop, allowing two runs to score when catcher Mike Napoli's throw towards home plate bounced off umpire Jim Wolf and trickled away. Scheppers scrambled to cover home, where Chris Iannetta upended him with a hard slide.

Scheppers remained on the ground, wincing in pain and holding his right knee as Mike Trout raced to score from second to give the Angels a 5-3 lead.

UDPATE:

Scheppers left with what the team is calling a "bruised right knee."

He will be re-evaluated by trainers Wednesday, according to the Rangers.
