ESPN Stats & Information (thanks to Zain Dhanani, Ryan Feldman, Justin Havens, Doug Kern, Zach Singer and Kenton Wong) put together a look at how Yu Darvish helped the Texas Rangers get a big win over the Los Angeles Angels. Here's how Darvish did it:

* Darvish kept his cutter low to righties, throwing 18 of his 31 cutters (58 percent) to right-handed hitters in the lower-third. Darvish retired Albert Pujols twice on cutters. Pujols entered Thursday's game batting .444 against cutters this year.

* Overall, Darvish threw 53 cutters, generating eight outs and giving up just one hit. Darvish's cutter has been a dominant pitch all season, especially for inducing ground-ball outs. A chart:

Yu Darvish's Cutter (2012 Season)
BA: .190
OPS: .554
GB Pct: 56.0
HR: 0

* Darvish had the Angels fooled all night, getting 20 swings-and-misses, tied for the second-most he has had in a start this year. Darvish was able to keep the Angels baffled using his whole repertoire.

Yu Darvish Swings-And-Misses vs. Angels
Cutter: 9
Slider: 4
Curveball: 4
Fastball: 3
>20 total, T-2nd most in a start this year

* For the second time this year (both in September), Darvish recorded an out on a pitch above 90 mph and a pitch below 70 mph. Darvish struck out Mike Trout swinging in the third inning on a 94-mph fastball, and he struck out Vernon Wells looking on a 63-mph curveball in the eighth inning.
