SEATTLE, Wash. – The box score will tell you Matt Harrison lost for the tenth time this season, but the lefty certainly did not look like a losing pitcher during Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the Mariners.

The 27-year-old gave up just one run off seven hits in eight innings but was outdueled by Seattle righty and former Rangers farmhand Blake Beavan, who threw seven scoreless innings.

Harrison (17-10, 3.17 ERA) did all he could –- his only big error was a second-inning solo home run to Michael Saunders -- but the Rangers couldn’t muster any offense.

“I’m sitting here saying he deserved better because I wanted him to win the ballgame,” Texas manager Ron Washington said. “He has nothing to hold his head down about. He did what he had to do.”

Harrison lost to Seattle for just the first time in ten starts and also for the first time at Safeco Field, a ballpark in which he had compiled a blistering 0.96 ERA heading into the game. Another win over the Mariners would have made Harrison the first opposing pitcher to beat Seattle five times in one season.

He also crossed the 200-inning mark on the season for the first time in his career, but Harrison didn’t seem all that concerned about it in the clubhouse.

“I still feel good and that was a personal goal, but tonight is about us winning and not just 200 innings,” he said.

Harrison missed a chance to become the Rangers’ first 18-game winner since Kenny Rogers in 2004. He will have another opportunity to do so, but hopefully for his sake – and Texas', for that matter – he receives some support from the offense.
