ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux discussed a wide range of issues on Saturday as players cleaned out their lockers. And he noted some bright spots in the season. That included Matt Harrison, who went to the All-Star Game and was the club's most consistent pitcher, going 18-11 with a 3.29 ERA in 32 starts. He threw 213 1/3 innings, the most in his career.

"I saw a lot of mental maturity in Matty," Maddux said. "Last year, he had a nice campaign. This year was better. Having a baby, becoming a father for the first time, things change. I thought he did a very nice job of balancing the father act and the baseball act and the husband act.

"It was the first time he went through that and it seemed to help him. I think the future is bright. I love Matty. He was our horse all year. He was our one guy in the rotation that was the flatliner -- never got too far up or down. (He was) consistent."

Harrison was a better pitcher away from Arlington in 2012, going 10-7 with a 3.10 ERA on the road, as opposed to 8-4 with a 3.55 ERA at home. He had career-highs in wins (18), ERA (3.29), innings (213 1/3), starts (32), strikeouts (133), WHIP (1.259), complete games (4) and shutouts (2).
