Early fantasy rankings: Yu Darvish too low?

It's never too early to talk fantasy baseball, is it? OK, maybe it is. But we're going to do it anyway. Besides, my fantasy football team stinks and has injury problems, so I need something else to worry about.

ESPN.com's Tristan H. Cockcroft ranks the starting pitchers for the 2013 fantasy season and has Yu Darvish as the top Rangers pitcher at No. 24. I've got to say that after the last eight starts for Darvish, I find that a bit low. Cockcroft has Matt Moore and Mat Latos ahead of Darvish (and a few others that I could argue should be behind him). But considering Darvish was No. 30 when the season began, it's an improvement.

Darvish collects strikeouts at a nice rate for fantasy and with the Rangers' lineup (at least when it's hitting like it's capable), he gets a good number of wins. The walks certainly bring Darvish's value down, but in his last eight starts Darvish reduced that number with only 11 walks. That's well below his average. In fact, he didn't have more than two walks in any of those starts after averaging over four in his first 4 1/2 months of starts.

If the Darvish that finished the season shows up from the beginning of 2013, I want him on my fantasy team. He'll eat innings, get strikeouts, reduce the walks and get wins. And if he's around No. 24, that's good value. Sign me up.
