Adrian Beltre is Rangers player of the year


Adrian Beltre was named the 2012 Texas Rangers Player of the Year by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He will be honored as part of the Dr Pepper Awards Show on Friday, Jan. 11 at the Arlington Convention Center.

Beltre joins Buddy Bell (1979, 1981, 1982) and Michael Young (2009) as Rangers third basemen to win the honor.

Beltre, 33, hit .321 with 36 homers and 102 RBIs in 156 games this season. He showed toughness, playing hurt and doing anything and everything to stay in the lineup. He was the club's most cosistent offensive performer, ending up third in the AL in batting average and total bases (339) and fourth in hits (194) and slugging percentage (.561).

Beltre continued to sparkle on defense as well, winning his fourth Gold Glove Award and second with the Rangers.
