SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Elvis is back in the building.

PODCAST
Derek Holland joins Fitzsimmons & Durrett to discuss the benefits of pitching in the World Baseball Classic and why he thinks letting Nolan Ryan leave the Texas Rangers would be a mistake.

Listen Listen
Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus is in today's lineup and will lead off against the Milwaukee Brewers, marking his return from the World Baseball Classic.

Andrus left Rangers camp on March 3 to represent Venezuela, which was eliminated from the international tournament this weekend after the first round.

"It was cool," Andrus said of the experience. "It would have probably been better if we made it to the second round and got to play in Miami.

"There was pride in wearing your country across your chest, and I can't wait until next time. At the same time, it is good to be back and get ready for the season."

Prior to leaving for the WBC, Andrus talked trash to his Rangers teammates who were also tabbed to play in the tournament. One target was Adrian Beltre, who until yesterday was hoping to join the Dominican Republic team for the second round. Once Venezuela was eliminated, Beltre was sure to console his Rangers teammate on the tough loss.

"When we lost the second game, he texted me to say we had a workout at 9:30 the next day," Andrus said laughing. "I told him I already knew that."

Outfielder Engle Beltre is also back in Rangers camp after representing Spain in the WBC. He was a late add to today's lineup and will hit sixth in place of Craig Gentry, who was scratched due to a stomach illness.

Other game notes:

  • RHP Alexi Ogando will make his fourth appearance and third start of the spring. Ogando, who is making the transition from the bullpen back into the rotation, has gradually improved in each outing. He struck out six in three innings during his last start March 6. He is scheduled to throw four innings today, with a 65-pitch limit.

  • RHP Derek Lowe threw live batting practice this morning and is the scheduled starter for Friday's game against San Francisco in Scottsdale. Lowe signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers on March 6.

  • RHP Lisalverto Bonilla is scheduled to pitch today after being promoted to big league camp this morning. He threw one scoreless inning Saturday, allowing a hit and one walk with one strikeout. Bonilla was acquired in December as part of the Michael Young trade.

  • Rangers in WBC update: Three Rangers advanced to the second round of the World Baseball Classic: Derek Holland (USA), Nelson Cruz and Leury Garcia (Dominican Republic). Cruz and Garcia are playing Italy in a game that began at noon CT. Derek Holland and his USA teammates play against Puerto Rico at 7 p.m. CT.

  • RHP Wilmer Font (biceps tendinitis) saw his first spring action this morning, allowing a hit and one walk in a scoreless inning in the 'B' game.

  • The Rangers are off Wednesday and return to action Thursday against Oakland at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
