The Rangers have dealt with injuries to the top two pitchers in their rotation this week. Harrison will go on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with an inflamed nerve in his lower back. Darvish, who has been dealing with a blister on the inside of his right finger, will make his start Friday.
Injuries happen. But the Rangers couldn't afford to take a double whammy. The Angels face the next four to six weeks without their ace, Jered Weaver.
With Harrison out, the Rangers will lean heavily on Darvish. Manager Ron Washington said Wednesday that Darvish's blister is smaller and he's hopeful it won't cause his ace any issues.
Darvish (2-0, 1.98 ERA) said that everything felt good after a bullpen session before Wednesday's game.
"I was able to command my pitches, and I was able to throw most of my pitches," Darvish said through his translator. "I think it went well."
If Darvish has been forced to make adjustments with any of his pitches, he won't say.
"If I had to make an adjustment I'm not going to tell you," Darvish said.
