Matchup: Nick Tepesch vs. Jordan Lyles

HOUSTON -- The Rangers go for a hard-earned three-game sweep on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park when right-hander Nick Tepesch faces Houston right-hander Jordan Lyles in a battle of ground-ball pitchers at 1:10 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.

Tepesch (2-3, 4.50): Tepesch tries turn things around after a stretch of two rough starts … He's allowed 10 earned runs in 10⅔ innings after an April during which he was 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA … The Rangers are 3-3 in his starts … He has recorded 57 ground ball outs against 25 fly ball outs so far this season … He has a 2.28 ground-ball-to-fly-ball ratio, second to Detroit's Doug Fister in the American League … Tepesch has only four walks in 32 innings … He's had a streak of 20⅓ innings without a walk this season … He's been working on his command in between starts as he tries to spot his fastball with more consistency … He's allowed 14 hits in two starts after giving up 20 in four April starts … He's held left-handed batters to a .214 batting average against … Tepesch is 1-2 with a 5.51 ERA for three road starts … He'll be facing Houston for the first time.

Lyles (1-0, 4.50): Lyles earned his first victory of the season in his second start on Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits in five innings in a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Angels … It was his first victory against an American League opponent … The 22-year-old right-hander was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on May 2 … He was 2-2 with a 5.32 ERA for five starts … Lyles has a 4.04 ERA for 22 career starts at Minute Maid Park, and six of his eight wins have come at home … Lyles has spent most of the past two seasons as the major leagues' youngest starter … Lyles had a 1.95 ground-ball-to-fly-ball ratio in 2012, ranking him ninth in the National League … Lyles, making his fifth career start against the Rangers, is 0-3 with 17 earned runs allowed in 22⅓ innings.

Hitters: The Astros have never faced Tepesch. Elvis Andrus (3-for-9) and David Murphy (3-for-4, one HR) have had the most success against Lyles.
