Rapid Reaction: Mariners 4, Rangers 3 (F/13)

The Texas Rangers had two leads Sunday afternoon but couldn't finish off the Seattle Mariners in a 4-3 loss at Safeco Field.

13th-inning blues: Reliever Michael Kirkman allowed a one-out double to Kendrys Morales, which set up the Mariners to win the game in the bottom of the 13th. Right-hander Ross Wolf got the second out of the inning on a groundout by Carlos Triunfel, but Jason Bay produced the game-winning hit with a single on a soft line drive to left field.

Pierzynski comes through: A.J. Pierzynski produced as a pinch hitter, coming up with an RBI single with one out in the top of the 11th to score Elvis Andrus that allowed the Rangers to take a brief 3-2 lead. It was Pierzynski's first RBI since April 24.

Nathan blows first save:
But closer Joe Nathan, who had saved 16 games in a row, was touched up by Raul Ibanez, who belted the first pitch of the bottom of the 11th for a solo home run to tie the game at three.

Profar starts strong: Jurickson Profar hit his first home run of the season in the top of the first batting in the leadoff spot with Andrus getting the day off at shortstop. It was Profar's only hit of the game. He's batting .263 in four games since being called up when Ian Kinsler went on the disabled list.

Tepesch has solid day: Nick Tepesch had five shutout innings before giving up the tying runs in the sixth inning on a first-pitch fastball that Morales hit for a two-run home run. Tepesch ended up going 5⅔ innings, allowing five hits and walking one. He had six strikeouts.

Up next: The Rangers have a day-night doubleheader in Arizona on Monday. Right-handed ace Yu Darvish (7-2, 2.84 ERA) and Martin Perez (his first start) going for Texas against right-hander Trevor Cahill (3-5, 2.81 ERA) and right-hander Ian Kennedy (2-3, 4.70 ERA) for the Diamondbacks. Game 1 is at 2:40 p.m. and Game 2 is at 8:40 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
