McCarthy (2-3, 4.36): McCarthy is hitting his stride in 2013, going 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA for his last four starts. ... He beat San Diego on Friday, allowing a run in seven innings. ... McCarthy is coming back from a scare last season when he was struck by a line drive while pitching for the Oakland A's on Sept. 5, 2012. The blow fractured his skull and caused an epidural hemorrhage that required surgery. ... McCarthy was signed to a two-year, $18 million contract by Arizona in the offseason. ... He ranks eighth in the National League with a 1.98 ERA in May ... McCarthy has allowed a run or less in three straight starts. He had a career-best 18-inning scoreless streak from May 7-24, tied for the fourth longest streak by a starter in Diamondbacks club history. ... McCarthy was traded for by the Rangers in exchange for John Danks in 2007 and spent three mostly ordinary years with the team. He went 13-15 with a 4.68 ERA for 44 starts ... He is 2-4 with a 3.97 ERA in 10 career starts against the Rangers.
