Darvish's winless streak reaches a month
He hasn't won in a month after Tuesday's 6-2 loss to the Oakland Athletics; his last win came on May 16 against Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers.
On Tuesday night Darvish was outpitched by Jarrod Parker, and the Rangers, who had ended a six-game losing streak the night before, dropped back to three games behind the A's in the American League West.
Darvish allowed home runs in the second and third innings to fall behind 3-0. Both came against his fastball after first-pitch strikes. The A's scored two more runs in the fourth -- one unearned -- to build a 5-2 lead.
Darvish presented a case after the game that he threw his fastballs where he wanted them and that he made quality pitches.
"I wasn't disappointed with those pitches," Darvish said. "They scored off of really good pitches."
Darvish might not want to see Oakland for a while. He lost for the fourth time in his career at Rangers Ballpark, the third time it's happened against the A's. Darvish is 1-4 against Oakland.
He had an explanation for that also.
"They are a very good team offensively," Darvish said. "And they are hard to get outs against."
Darvish did have 10 strikeouts in six innings. He had a good curveball and slider. But the A's were able to handle his fastball.
Rangers manager Ron Washington said after the game that the A's might have guessed right against Darvish's fastball. Whatever it was, Oakland beat him again.
"I don't feel like I pitched that badly," Darvish said. "But I think I gave up runs easily."
