Ryan: Nothing new on Nelson Cruz situation
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers CEO Nolan Ryan said that the club has heard nothing about the status of outfielder Nelson Cruz, that after Milwaukee Brewers slugger Ryan Braun was suspended Monday for the rest of the season.
Cruz is reportedly under investigation for ties to Biogenesis, a closed anti-aging clinic in Florida linked with the distribution of performance-enhancing drugs. Braun is among the more than one dozen players under the same investigation for being linked to the Miami-based clinic.
|Richard Durrett is mad about the Ryan Braun situation and goes on an epic rant about why he's so upset with the suspended Milwaukee Brewers slugger.
Braun will not contest the 65-game suspension, which was meted out for "violations of the Basic Agreement and its Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," according to a statement released by MLB.
MLB officials have been interviewing players, who have been represented by the union and their own lawyers.
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said he has thought about a potential Cruz suspension.
"You have to," Daniels said. "It's one of those deals that we're not involved in the process. We would be, we'd cooperate if we were asked to, but we haven't been.
"We really are somewhat intentionally and maybe wisely in the dark on this. And so we we're going to sit back and wait for the best and try to make our club as strong as possible."
Daniels was asked how a potential suspension might impact the free-agent-to-be Cruz.
"I don't want to jump to conclusions that that's going to happen," Daniels said. "I'm hoping it doesn't. But I really don't have a feel for it."
