ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Rangers will use a scheduled off day to make up a game against Arizona that was postponed May 29 due to poor field conditions. Texas will start right-hander Yu Darvish against Diamondbacks right-hander Zeke Spruill with an early start of 6:05 p.m. CT on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
Darvish (9-5, 2.80 ERA): Darvish has come back strong since his stint on the disabled list. He's 1-1 with a 0.73 ERA, allowing a run in 12 1/3 innings. ... He took the loss in a 1-0 defeat to Cleveland on Saturday in which he allowed a leadoff home run to Michael Bourn on the second pitch of the bottom of the first inning. Darvish had 11 strikeouts and threw 123 pitches. It was his second 1-0 loss of the season and the sixth time he's received one or no runs of support. He's 0-3 despite quality starts in all six outings. ... Darvish leads the majors with 172 strikeouts. ... He has started once against Arizona, on May 27, allowing four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings. He had 14 strikeouts and took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning before giving up a game-tying two-run home run to Didi Gregorius.
Spruill (0-0, 2.08 ERA): The 23-year-old right-hander makes his first major league start Thursday night. ... He has allowed a run in 4 1/3 innings in relief. ...
