Rangers claim IF Rosales off waivers
|Rangers GM Jon Daniels joins Fitzsimmons and Durrett to discuss the Rangers' walk-off wins and the trade deadline.
Rosales was designated for assignment twice last month when the A's traded for Los Angeles Angels infielder Alberto Callaspo. He cleared waivers the first time and went to Triple-A Sacramento before being recalled by the A's on July 24. This time, Oakland didn't hold onto a player that A's manager Bob Melvin hoped to keep. "We still feel like he might be our best defender at short in the organization," Melvin said Wednesday. "It would be nice to be able to keep him, and we'll see if that's the case."
The Rangers made sure that wasn't the case.
Rosales, 30, is a career .220 hitter with 19 home runs and 76 RBIs in 301 games with Cincinnati and Oakland. The Reds drafted him in the 12th round in 2005. Rosales, a right-handed hitter, is batting just .193 this season with five doubles, four homers and eight RBIs in 50 games, including 34 starts, for the A's. Shortstop is his primary position, but he has also played second base, third base, first base and in the outfield during his career.
The strong-armed Rosales is a high-energy player who sprints to first on walks and runs all-out when he circles the bases on home runs.
