ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers try for two straight wins over Houston when left-hander Travis Blackley makes his debut against his old team, the Astros, and rookie right-hander Jarred Cosart at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday night on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
Blackley (1-1, 4.89): Blackley makes his first start for the Rangers after being acquired from the Astros on Wednesday ... He pitched three scoreless innings for Triple-A Round Rock in a start on Thursday ... The Melbourne native will become the first Australian-born player to play for Texas in club history ... Blackley is 1-1 with a 4.89 ERA for 42 relief appearances this season for the Astros ... He had an 0.54 ERA in 19 appearances away from Houston's Minute Maid Park ... Blackley was 6-4 with a 4.10 in 28 games (15 of them starts) between San Francisco and Oakland in 2012 ... He beat the Rangers 3-1 on Oct. 2, 2012 to give the A's a share of first place in the American League West.
Cosart (1-0, 1.15): The 23-year-old Cosart has started his major league career in a big way ... He has four quality starts, joining teammate Brett Oberholtzer as the only pitchers this season to start their career on that run ... Cosart threw six shutout innings in his last start against Oakland, receiving a no-decision in a game the Astros eventually won 2-1 in 11 innings ... According to Elias, Cosart is the first pitcher to throw at least six innings and allow no more than one earned run in his first six major league games since Cincinnati's Tom Browning in 1984-85 ... The Astros are 3-3 when Cosart starts, giving him 2.31 runs of support ... Cosart throws a fastball in the mid-90s that can climb into the upper 90s at times ... He has a sharp-biting curveball and also throws a changeup.
Hitters: Cosart has never faced the Rangers. Blackley has never faced the Astros.
