ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers try to even a three-game series with the Minnesota Twins with right-hander Matt Garza facing right-hander Mike Pelfrey at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
Garza (9-3, 3.69): Garza gets his second try at his 10th win of the season, which would make it four times he's reached that mark in his career ... The Rangers are 5-2 in Garza's seven starts despite the 29-year-old right-hander allowing at least four earned runs in his last five starts ... He is 2-2 with a 5.50 ERA in five August starts ... He has allowed seven-plus hits and two or fewer walks in the five starts ... Garza allowed four runs in seven innings in a 5-2 loss to the Chicago White Sox last Sunday ... Garza has allowed multiple home runs in three of his last four starts ... Garza makes his second career start against his old team the Twins ... He lost a 3-2 decision on May 31, 2009, allowing three runs in seven innings.
Pelfrey (5-10, 5.06): Pelfrey walked a season-high six batters last Sunday against Cleveland, but allowed only one run on two hits in five innings ... Pelfrey defeated Detroit in his start before that on Aug. 20, allowing three runs in 6 2/3 innings ... Opponents are batting .293 against Pelfrey ... The former first-round pick of the New York Mets (ninth overall) is 3-6 with a 4.79 ERA on the road ... Pelfrey lost his only career start against the Rangers, allowing four runs in six innings.
Hitters: Alex Rios is 3-for-6 with a triple against Pelfrey. Justin Morneau, who hit the game-winning home run for the Twins in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rangers, is 1-for-3 with an RBI against Garza.
