The Texas Rangers lost again on the road Friday night as the Los Angeles Angels rallied for a 6-5 victory. It ended a seven-game winning streak over the Halos.

West lead slips away:The Rangers are back in second place after losing for the fifth time in seven games. The Oakland A's took a 1/2 game lead in the American League West with a 7-5 victory over the Houston Astros.

Rally comes up short: The Rangers almost made a dramatic two-out rally in the top of the ninth against Angels closer Ernesto Frieri. Trailing 6-4, Leonys Martin chopped a double down the right-field line. Elvis Andrus followed with a line-drive single to left field to score Martin and cut the Halos' lead to 6-5. Ian Kinsler worked a full count, but struck out on a 96 mph fastball that was up and out of the strike zone to end the game.

Garza implodes in fourth: The Rangers handed Matt Garza a 3-0 lead but he gave it away in the bottom of the fourth. The Angels scored five runs as they sent 10 men to the plate. Mark Trumbo had the big blow, a three-run home run on a hanging breaking ball that he pounded over the left-center field fence for a 5-3 lead. Texas traded for Garza as a top-of-the-rotation starter. He has allowed four or more earned runs in five of his past six starts.

Rios stays hot: Alex Rios is growing more and more comfortable in the Rangers' lineup. He reached base four times Friday night. Rios had a home run in the second inning for a 1-0 lead. He also had an RBI single in the third inning as Texas built a 3-0 lead.

Andrus stands out: Andrus returned from a five-game absence because of back spasms in a big way on Friday night. He belted his second home run of the season in the seventh inning to cut the Angels' lead to 6-4. He was 2-for-5 with two RBIs for the game.

C.J. gets win: Former Ranger C.J. Wilson has struggled against his old team, and he fell behind in the early innings on Friday. But Wilson picked up his 15th win of the season, going 6 2/3 innings. Wilson has three more wins than Yu Darvish.

Up next: The Rangers turn to Derek Holland (9-7, 3.07 ERA) to try to even their series with the Angels, who will throw right-hander Garrett Richards (5-6, 4.06) on Saturday night at Angel Stadium. First pitch is 8:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM and 1540-AM.
