ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Yu Darvish is handling his bad luck about as well as someone can.

He has lost two consecutive 1-0 games, four of them overall this season and a little sleep.

"There is only so much you can do as an individual player," Darvish said through an interpreter Tuesday. "I just have to go out there and throw my pitches and pitch my game and do what I can to help the team."

Darvish has lost four starts in a row at a time when the Texas Rangers have struggled mightily, going 3-13 in September to lose 8½ games in the standings to the Oakland Athletics. Texas went from two games up to start the month to 6½ games back after Wednesday's 4-3 loss in 12 innings to the Tampa Bay Rays.

During his skid, Darvish lost 3-2 to the Minnesota Twins, a game in which he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and allowed two home runs to fall behind by the final margin. He lost 11-4 to the A's on Sept. 4, his worst start of the season because it came in such a big game; the Rangers left Oakland tied for the division lead instead of up two games.

Then came the 1-0 losses to the Pittsburgh Pirates and Oakland again on a homestand during which the Rangers lost all six games to basically drop out of the AL West race.

The losing has been tough, Darvish said. But he understands. He reminded reporters Tuesday that he has seen a lot of it in Japan and now in America.

"This is baseball," Darvish said. "You have some big years and months, and you have some bad years and months. This is not a new experience for me. This happened in Japan, too. Every individual is playing hard, but you don't always get the results."
