Mike Maddux thrilled for HOF brother
“Congrats to Greg on his election to the Hall of Fame," Maddux said in comments released by the Rangers. "Having seen his body of work through the 1980's, 1990's, and 2000's, his election into the HOF was easier than winning those 355 games. Greg’s command of the baseball is unparalleled in our era and his quick work in recording outs became the gold standard for efficiency in our game.
“If you could combine command, movement, change of speeds, and the heart of a champion, you'd have a good number two pitcher to follow Greg. He was THAT good."
Mike Maddux also tipped his cap to his brother's prowess for fielding.
“Mom and Dad were always nervous when Greg was a youngster about him "catching a cold and catching the flu," because he caught EVERYTHING," Madduxi said. "Eighteen Gold Gloves later...Mom and Dad were right.”
Rangers president of baseball operations and GM Jon Daniels also congratulated Maddux.
"On behalf of everyone here with the Rangers, I want to congratulate Greg on his election to the Hall of Fame," Daniels said in the team's release. "His accomplishments are well documented, and it's an honor for us to work with one of the true greats. In addition, he has made an impression on all of us with his passion for and knowledge of the game, his willingness to share it with all, and his ability to keep things loose and have fun. His approachability and humility are rare, particularly for someone who has accomplished so much."
