The Rangers agreed to terms Saturday with left-handed pitcher Rafael Perez on a minor league contract for 2014 with an invitation to spring training.

Perez, 31, pitched for minor league affiliates in the Minnesota and Boston organizations last season, going a combined 3-2 with six saves and a 2.60 ERA over 29 relief appearances with Rochester (AAA) and Portland (AA). He hasn’t appeared in the majors since left shoulder surgery in September of 2012.

Perez is 21-12 record with three saves and a 3.64 ERA over 338 career appearances in the major leagues, all in relief with Cleveland from 2006-12. He made at least 70 appearances for the Indians in three of four years from 2008-11, and his 71 games pitched in 2011 were tied for second in the American League. He also had six postseason outings for the Indians in 2007.
