ARLINGTON, Texas -- A cautionary note for pitchers this season: If you fall behind Prince Fielder 3-0, be really careful where you put that fourth pitch.

Amaury Sanit, the starting pitcher for Quintana Roo, a team from Mexico facing the Rangers in an exhibition on Thursday, found out. Fielder took an aggressive swing, lashing a ball 424 feet to right-center field and into the Rangers bullpen for a two-run homer. It was a mighty whack from a player the Rangers expect to take many of those during his time in Arlington. The Rangers went on to win the game, 7-4.

Fielder, wearing No. 84, has had a solid spring. He's hit with men on base and has looked comfortable as he adjusts to a new team. It doesn't hurt that as pitchers deal with him, Adrian Beltre is in the on-deck circle getting prepared to hit himself.

What Fielder did Thursday is one major thing this offense missed last season -- a power, left-handed bat in the middle of the lineup. When Josh Hamilton left, that void never did get filled. Fielder certainly fills it now, and if Thursday is any indication, he's going to like hitting at Globe Life Park.
