ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers ace Yu Darvish will not travel with the team to San Antonio and will instead play catch in Arlington on Saturday, then throw off flat ground under the watchful eye of pitching coach Mike Maddux on Sunday.

"Then we'll put together a plan from there," manager Ron Washington said ahead of the Rangers' two-game exhibition set against the Houston Astros. The Rangers open the regular season Monday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies.

Darvish did some light jogging in the outfield at Globe Life Park prior to Thursday's game and watched from the dugout. He was scratched from his Opening Day start after his neck stiffness prevented him from throwing. Darvish was checked out by Dr. Drew Dossett on Wednesday and an MRI showed no structural issues.

The club will slowly get Darvish back up to speed and no timetable for his return has been determined yet.
