ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have a new long man in the bullpen, as the club purchased the contract of right-handed reliever Daniel McCutchen on Tuesday. Manager Ron Washington said he plans to use McCutchen as a long man.

To make room, the club designated catcher Chris Gimenez for assignment and outrighted left-handed pitcher Michael Kirkman, who cleared waivers and will be in the Triple-A Round Rock rotation.

McCutchen has a carer 4.77 ERA in 108 games (15 starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2009 to 2012. He signed a minor league deal in December.

The Rangers claimed Gimenez off waivers from Oakland last week. They now have 10 days to trade, release or outright him to the minors.
