4/24/2014

The Texas Rangers have officially added retired pitcher Darren Oliver to their staff as a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels.

Oliver joins an impressive list of former players who are now consultants, including Hall of Famer Greg Maddux, infielder Tony Fernandez and catcher Pudge Rodriguez.

Oliver, 43, retired after the 2013 season with 118 wins in a 20-year career as a starter and reliever. He started for the Rangers in the club's first playoff series in 1996 and returned to the postseason in 2006 with the Mets and was on the Rangers' 2010 and 2011 playoff teams.
