ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington decided to give Shin-Soo Choo one more day at designated hitter with an off day Thursday. Washington said Choo has been begging to play the outfield and that he can, but that the skipper made the call to give him another half-day before starting him in left field on Friday in Anaheim.

It means that Mitch Moreland will play left field for the first time in his big league career. Moreland, who is hitting .266 with one homer and nine RBIs in 64 at-bats this season, has started 32 games (and had 45 appearances) in the outfield in the majors, with all of them coming in right field.

"He's been working out there," Washington said. "I wanted to get him in the game."

Choo sprained his left ankle last week in Oakland and has been eased back into the lineup. He led off and played DH in Tuesday's game and will do the same tonight.
