Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington said Martin Perez will have an additional evaluation on his left elbow before a decision is made whether he'll miss one or two starts or need to be placed on the disabled list.
An MRI showed elbow inflammation but no ligament tears.
"They just gave this kid $20 million," Washington said of Perez. "They're going to make sure he has a thorough examination, so they know exactly what's wrong with him before they make a decision."
For now, the Rangers are skipping Perez's turn in the rotation.
If Perez goes on the DL, the earliest he would be eligible to return is May 25, when the Rangers are at the Detroit Tigers.
