ARLINGTON, Texas -- Two of the Rangers' bigger names hoping to return from injuries spoke with reporters prior to Friday's game to give updates on their condition.

Left-handed pitcher Derek Holland will throw a bullpen on Sunday and then work on PFP (pitcher's fielding practice) on Monday. He said he hopes that test will go well enough that he could go out on a rehab assignment.

Catcher Geovany Soto (knee) said that he's still on track to be ready the first game after the All-Star break.

"It just needs time to heal," Soto said. "I feel great. The only thing I'm not doing is hitting and deep squatting. The hitting is probably a week away and a couple of weeks [from] outside."

Soto said he's strengthening everything around the knee, but he needs to give it time before the deep squatting. He said it's a "fair timeline" to say he'd play in Toronto when the Rangers open the second half.

"It's not for sure, but 90 percent that I'd be there," Soto said. "That's what the doctor told me."

Outfielder and first baseman Jim Adduci will play the entire series in New Orleans with Triple-A Round Rock. The club will evaluate him at that point to see if he's ready to return. He's alternating between first and the outfield so far in his rehab games and is 4-for-13 in those games. Adduci fractured his little finger and was placed on the DL retroactive to April 19.
