ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre had four hits Tuesday night, giving him 2,503 for his career. He's the 86th player since 1900 to reach the 2,500 hit mark and just the sixth to do it while playing third base.

Do Beltre's numbers make him Hall of Fame worthy? Manager Ron Washington thinks so.

"No doubt about it," Washington said of the 35-year old Beltre. "He's got (384) home runs; you need 150 more to get to 500. He will get to 500. Sometimes our reflexes get a little slower when we get a little older, but he can still play. I will still take him."

What's also most impressive is that Beltre has produced his totals while playing the majority of the time at third base. George Brett (3,154), Wade Boggs (3,010), Brooks Robinson (2,848), Chipper Jones (2,514) and Buddy Bell (2,514) are the only other primary third basemen to reach 2,500 hits.

"I think when you play long enough, like I have, you accumulate some stuff, and that's what happened," Beltre said. "If you ask me 10 years ago if I'd be in this situation I would tell you you were lying.

"It's humbling to (be) mentioned with a couple of guys. It's nice to get there. Maybe when I retire, I'll look back at what I've done, maybe my son can appreciate what I've done. The way I look at it, I try to come out here every day and win ball games. It's what I do. I can't deny the fact I've collected some things I should be proud of, and I'm looking forward to getting some more."

Roster moves: Outfielder Engel Beltre, who has been out with a fractured right tibia, will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday. Beltre was placed on the 60-day disabled list on March 26.

"With the situation he’s in, he can go on this rehab assignment, he can be a big help to us," Washington said. "So it is key for him to get back and play baseball and help this organization too."

The Rangers promoted RHP Luke Jackson, RHP Phil Klein, INF Ryan Rua and OF Jake Smolinski to Triple-A Round Rock from Double-A Frisco. Also, RHP Ryan Bores was transferred from Class-A Myrtle Beach to Double-A Frisco. The Rangers also released RHP Daniel McCutchen.

Holland work delayed: The heavy rain Wednesday delayed LHP Derek Holland's rehab from knee surgery. Holland is in a holding pattern until he can perform again for Rangers officials. Once he does that, a potential minor league rehab stint is next. Washington said the Rangers need to see Holland throw a simulate game before assigning him to a minor league club.
Calvin Watkins joined in September 2009. He's covered the Cowboys since 2006 and also has covered colleges, boxing and high school sports.
