Yu Darvish to undergo exam today

Yu Darvish's season could officially come to a close Thursday when the Rangers ace is scheduled to undergo an examination to check on the inflammation of his right elbow.

Darvish, who is on the 15-day disabled list, hasn't pitched since Aug. 9 when he lasted just four innings in a loss to the Houston Astros. Darvish said he didn't have arm problems during his outing, but he reported some issues a few days later.

After a discussion with Darvish, the team decided to move him to the DL. Manager Ron Washington said at the time that he expected his ace would return after the 15-day stint. When that didn't happen, Washington backed off any expectations for a Darvish return.

GM Jon Daniels said Darvish won't return if he isn't 100 percent and even noted should Darvish get cleared by team doctors to begin a throwing program, it's probably not worth him returning this season.

Darvish is 22nd in the big leagues with a 3.06 ERA and tied for 11th in strikeouts at 182.
