Poveda likely to have Tommy John surgery
By Richard Durrett
SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers right-hander Omar Poveda has a sprained ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching elbow and will probably undergo Tommy John surgery.
He will get a second opinion from Dr. Lewis Yocum before making a decision.
If he has the surgery, Poveda can be placed on 60-day disabled list, which would open a spot on the 40-man roster.
