Madrigal not DFA'd; put on 60-day DL

By Richard Durrett

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers just announced that they are not designating RHP Warner Madrigal for assignment. Instead, Madrigal is being transferred from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.

Assistant general manager Thad Levine said that MLB told the club that it wasn't comfortable designated a player that hadn't gone through the full 15-day stint on the DL (Madrigal is 13 days in).

"They didn't like the precedent that set," Levine said.

The Rangers didn't consider the 60-day disabled list because they believe Madrigal would be ready well before then. He's been cleared to throw after experiencing right forearm inflammation.

Interestingly, this means the Rangers won't lose Madrigal. He would throw in Arizona, could go out on a rehab assignment on May 3 and be ready to come off the 60-day DL on June 3 (it's retroactive to Opening Day). He could then be optioned to the minors.

So there you go.
