Mound matchup: Lewis vs. Garcia
By Richard Durrett
The Rangers will go for the sweep over the White Sox as RHP Colby Lewis goes up against RHP Freddy Garcia. Here's a brief look at the matchup:
Lewis (4-3, 3.41 ERA): The off days recently has given the club some additional days off for the rotation. Lewis will be pitching with an extra rest day having started last Friday at Target Field against the Twins. The Rangers fell, 2-1. Lewis went six innings and gave up just two runs on five hits, but he did have four walks (tied a season high) and threw 111 pitches. Lewis has quality starts in five of his last six outings, but is only 2-1. He has a 3.18 ERA in that span and has received just two runs or fewer of support in those six starts. Lewis is winless in his last five road starts and is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA away from Arlington. Lewis has made three starts against the White Sox and is 1-2 with a 10.26 ERA. He's lost both of his starts at U.S. Cellular Field.
Garcia (4-3, 5.26 ERA): The right-hander is making his 10th start of the season and is 1-2 with a 5.24 ERA in four starts at home in 2010. He's improved after a slow start to the season, allowing just two earned runs in four of his last five outings. Garcia pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on four hits in a win over Tampa Bay. The seven innings matched a season high. Garcia certainly has experience against Texas, making his 20th career start against the Rangers (but first since 2008). He's 6-5 with a 4.39 ERA in his career against the Rangers, but 2-1 with a 1.57 ERA in his last five starts versus Texas.
Hitters: None of the current Chicago hitters have done particularly well against Lewis. Paul Konerko and A.J. Pierzynski are a combined 3-for-19. Michael Young is 9-for-34 against Garcia and Vladimir Guerrero is 5-for-20 with a homer and four RBIs.
