By Randy Jennings
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Side-arming lefty Clay Rapada has thrown his hat in the ring as a candidate for the playoff roster. Rapada worked a lightning-quick sixth inning, retiring the Mariners in order.
Rapada pitched another scoreless inning in the seventh, but needed some defensive help. David Murphy cut down Adam Moore trying to stretch a single and Andres Blanco ranged left with a dive to turn Josh Wilson’s ground ball into a force play at second.
Seattle leads, 3-1, going to the eighth inning. thanks to Justin Smoak’s two-run home run in the fourth, his second home run against his former team in as many nights.
