Texas awaits official word from Francisco
By Richard Durrett
Rangers reliever Frank Francisco has not yet officially accepted the club's arbitration offer, but general manager Jon Daniels is confident that power right-handed eighth-inning setup man will before tonight's deadline.
"I fully expect them to, but they don’t have to make that decision final until tonight," Daniels said. "But barring something changing on their end, I expect them to accept which is a good outcome for us. We get a guy we know back on a one-year contract."
Francisco, 31, was 6-4 with a 3.76 ERA in 56 games for Texas in 2010. He missed all of September and the playoffs with a strained right lat muscle, but is expected to be ready for spring training.
"He made a lot of progress at the end of the World Series," Daniels said. "He had a follow-up MRI and it was healing properly, but he wasn’t ready. He hadn’t thrown in a month and a half, so there was no way to get ready. Our medical staff expects a full recovery and that he's ready to go in spring training. Assuming he accepts the offer, our guys will visit with him and gets whatever additional attention he needs."
